Web hosting – flexibility vs simplicity!
A few days back I wrote a post on website hosting and tried to find out some ways to select the best web hosting company depending on your needs.
In that post Melody made a comment that she uses Yahoo small business web hosting to host her website. If you are comfortable with it, you are always welcome. I am not sure why but it always seems to me that Yahoo or Google hosting is not good enough for professional websites.
Please do not misunderstanding me. When I say “professional”, I mean serious business. Ok, you know what I am trying to say here. Good webhosting is all about flexibility and if you are a pro, you would definitely like to start developing a website from scratch. You would play with the .htaccess file. To make things more secured, you may also like to go for shell access rather than going for FTP. You may also like to host sub domains or use different partitions in the main domain. In such situations, a pro will, in most of the cases, go for a regular website hosting with a good hosting company rather than going for Google Sites or Yahoo.
Especially if we talk about Google sites, they simply do not allow you to do much. There is almost no flexibility there. You can only select from a few prebuilt templates. Does it really make sense! You can’t even add blogger if you host a custom domain in Google Sites.
But at the end of the day, it is entirely your choice. But, if you plan to go big, I will definitely recommend you to go with a regular but reliable web hosting company. Let me know your views.
