In last two posts, I was talking about video production and optimization. In this post, I will talk about video promotion.
If you are yet to read those posts, read them first:

- Video Production, Optimization and Promotion – Part Two
There is a basic difference between SEO friendly copywriting and video production. When you are writing SEO content, you are putting as much emphasis on the search bots as on the readers of the content. However, when you are creating a video content, the only recipient is another human being. There is no h1, h2 or h3 tags in the video to optimize.
I am writing this because, if you can produce a good video, half of your promotional job would be done. If content is king for an HTML page, presentation or packaging is king for a video. In an ideal situation, all you need to do is to dump it in a few networks to be picked up by your target audience. That’s it; they will than take up your job to promote it among rest of the web.
However, here are some tips on video promotion:
- Create a good and compelling thumbnail that would attract eyeballs at the very first glance.
- Create a catchy title – that would get more visitors to click on the link.
- Create your own channel at youtube and publish your video under related tags. (Submit all your videos at once so that one video can transfer the visitor to another one).
- After publishing the video, promote it in as many bookmarking sites as possible (it is better if you have a good network).
- Apart from bookmarking the video, promote it in different forums and blogs (including your own site or blog).
- Comment on your video (by tricky and create some fake IDs to start a conversation via comments) – this will attract more visitors. [In all these steps, the core idea is to take the video to the Most Viewed page for once. If you can get there for once, the count would double and triple in no time.]
- If you are thinking about video production and promotion, you must have a decent page at MySpace. Promote the video there too. There are so many other websites like MySpace where you can promote your video (do that – there is no duplicate content penalty …lol)
- Go viral with email promotion (do not forget to send the link to all your friends)

I think the production quality of videos destined for youtube is a major drawback for would be internet video stars. Take the time to figure out what you are going to say and how to make it look good. The webcam on your computer that is showing off the dated furniture in your living room is probably not the best option if you are promoting your business.
