Video Case Study – YouTube Video Ranks In The Top 5

Mark over at 45n5.com asked if he could join the video case study. I said, sure, why not?

We’re both trying to rank for worlds best internet marketing tools through YouTube. The search phrase has low competition and low search volume. Mark posted his video on July 15 and linked to it with the appropriate anchor text in his blog post. Three days later, his video is in 4th position. Check out this screenshot.

Interestingly, his blog post about this case study is ranking higher than his YouTube video.

I finally made my video. It took me a couple tries to figure out CamStudio.

I know it’s hard to see the words in my video. I’ll try to do better next time. Here’s one thing to take from this case study. A video on YouTube can rank quickly for a low competition search phrase.

You can rank with everything(blog, picture, video, even a comment) for a search term that is long. You proved that useless rankings are easy to achieve, which everybody else already knew. Now what?

thanks for the mention Dee. It’s still strange I think that the url link to the youtube video showed up and not the universal search where the video appears in the search results. Still a mystery to me how to get the video to show up in the results.

And what do you think, is there a chance that folks from Google won’t set some sort of sandbox for youtube videos, too? I would like to be first for “Paris Hilton”, it might be pretty easy, if there’s no cover… You know what I mean!

How is this a useless ranking? The keyword phrase has some search volume.

I don’t see Google putting YouTube videos in a sandbox because they own YouTube. However, if internet marketers start spamming YouTube, Google might have to sandbox them.

Yeah sorry. My bad. I somehow read from the post that this search term isn’t almost searched at all. My Mind plays sometimes tricks on me.
But 160 searches a month are still good traffic to rank for if it’s easy. I’m taking my “Now what?” question back. I probably know what to do with it. Thanks:)
