Unique Outsourcing Tip: Use Quality Writers as Blog Commenters

Posted on 08. Nov, 2007 by Dave in Business

I’m trying to outsource more to use my money and time more effectively. One of the things I’m outsourcing is blog commenting. The company where I work as an online marketer has a couple sites in different niches. I don’t know all the niches well. For me to leave quality comments, I would have to spend time getting familiar with the niches. Niche research takes time so I put up an ad on various outsourcing sites and webmaster forums looking for blog commenters.

I tried a couple people but they were unreliable and their comments were not very good. They were not familiar with the niches. Their comments were very general.

But later, a blogger answered my ad. I was familiar with her because we trade votes on a social media voting site. I was surprised she answered my ad because her own blog was in my niche.

Anyways, she’s doing a great job because she’s passionate about her niche. She writes quality blog posts on her blog and it’s getting some traffic. For me, she often leaves comments of more than 3 sentences even though I only asked for 2-3 sentence blog comments. Her comments are high quality. The other bloggers respond to them and we’re getting traffic from her comments. Also, she makes our site look good. Our brand is improving because of her comments.

I’m learning that quality writers and bloggers make excellent blog commenters.

So, if you want to promote your site on the grassroots level, think about hiring a quality writer/blogger to leave blog comments. Find someone who’s passionate about your niche. Be willing to pay extra. If you’re worried about the lack of connection between your blog and their comments, ask them to read your blog so they know where you’re coming from. Also, you can even have them post on your blog once or twice a month.

This same strategy should work for forum marketing too because it’s similar to blog commenting.

How much do you pay per comment if you don’t mind me asking?

Yes, I agree with you. If your too busy to do the work, then better outsource it. Make sure that you outsource with the right people, to make sure you get your money’s worth.

that’s an interesting idea dee..
but just to put things into perspective here..
commenting is used by most bloggers not only to attract attention and readers, but also as a reflection of their personality and style right?

so won’t using someone else for your comment strategy come in between this?

Good question :)

I totally agree that hiring quality writers and bloggers works best, but still insist not to outsource commenting, especially of the niche you yourself are an expert.

I was wondering about the cost too.

I might outsource blog commenting to get links to a niche site which makes money through affiliate links, Adsense or Chitika but I would never outsource commenting for my personal blog.

It can range from $.50 to $3.00 a comment. $1.00 per comment seems to be the most common price with quality writers.

Great idea, actually I wasn’t expecting to read about it here but I was thinking about hiring a company to increase the comments. But what was halting me is that I wanted to measure the quality of my posts and how can i intrigue visitors to comment on my posts instead of “faking” them (kinda) with paid per comment scheme.

Btw, how much you’d pay for a commentator (if you’d pay on monthly basis and how much comments would be required?)

My post was talking about comments on other blogs, not your own.

Here are three ways you can increase your blog’s comments.

(1) Get more traffic. Very simple advice but it works. The more traffic, the more comments.

(2) Network with other bloggers especially by commenting on their blogs or contacting them directly. Some of them will probably become regular or semi-regular commenters.

(3) Ask questions at the end of your post.

I wouldn’t pay someone to comment on my blog. That’s just not my style. I like to have natural comments on my blogs. I would pay between $.50 – $2.00 per comment on other blogs to drive traffic to my site.

Dee,
What payment mechanism do you use? How do you manage the mechanics of having multiple post in your name?
Thanks,

Unfortunately Dee, I have to disagree with you on this one. It’s more a moral / ethical issue which I do not agree with. The reason is kinda long and I wrote a post in my blog instead as shown in the pingback above. I do hope however, that your comments left in my blog were your own and not outsourced. I would be terribly disappointed if it were the latter.

I just pay them weekly through PayPal. I don’t quite understand your second question.

I should’ve been clearer. The blogs I do the paid comments for are not personal blogs. They are informational or news blogs that could be written by anyone with passion for the niche. They are not personality driven at all.

I would not use this outsourcing tactic for a personality driven blog unless I had the commenter post regularly on the blog.

Thanks for joining the conversation. I should’ve been clearer in my post.

The blogs I do the paid comments for are not personal blogs. They are informational or news blogs that could be written by anyone with passion for the niche. They are not personality driven at all. Also, the name on the blog comments is name of the blog rather than the blogger’s name.

I would not use this outsourcing tactic for a personality driven blog unless I had the commenter post frequently on the blog.

Also, I agree with you about commenting under someone else’s name. That’s definitely an ethical issue. I don’t think it’s okay to comment under someone else’s name but commenting under the blog’s name is okay with me as long as the blog is not personality driven.

Sorry for my miscommunication. We may still disagree but I hope I’ve cleared things up a little.

Hello! Thanks for the extra explanation. However, I still have trouble accepting the notion that informational or news blogs could be differentiated from a personality driven blog. With due respect, I don’t see much difference between the two.

As a blogger who reads comments placed in my blog, I take it that whoever leaves a comment is the author of the blog which is linked to their name (whether it is their name or blog’s name, it doesn’t really matter). The element of trust is placed there.

But I guess, at the end of the day, it is very much up to the individual on how he wishes to manage his blogs (which may include hiring paid commentators).

We may disagree but that’s the beauty of an engagement of words :D

Hi Dee,

Your perfectly right. Having good writers/bloggers makes quality comments. The good thing of making good blog comments, as a result, they will also viewing your site and leave or post comments.

Well, it’s additional traffic for your both website.

Hi Dee, I think this is an interesting idea, and one I hadn’t considered. But in light of the time contraints for those of us for whom blogging is only one of a thousand simultaneous projects, it is worthy of some thought.

I have a slightly different question, but one you might be able to shed some light on. Where does one find good blog interview subjects who are readily available? This is probably very obvious and I’m blinded by my own multitasking, but hey, can’t hurt to ask! I blog about persuasive communication and its role in bringing about positive change.

I had Taskus.com plan my son’s 9th birthday party and it turned out awesome,
with no hassle! $5 per hour rate is definitely worth it.

I saved so much time yesterday with http://www.Taskus.com
. I wanted to take the wife away for the weekend but had no time to plan. So
I had TaskUs make me a report on travel destinations within 5 hours of my
house. It worked out great with a nice promotional offer of $5 per hour
right now.

Commenting can be tedious, so outsourcing is a smart use of your time. I ran a little experiment myself in outsourcing my comments, which produced some interesting quality results. You have to perform a lot of upfront screening to get a good commentator, but once you have one, you’ll save significant hours.
