Think it Yourself – be a better webmaster – Part – 1
Posted on 14. Sep, 2008 by Roy in Business
Ok, here is a new series of posts ? think it yourself (does it sound like ?do it yourself??). In this series I will write some points that you may consider giving a thought. And your comments may help some other people to think and develop. So here they are:
1. Link building, by nature is what we may call spam. Ok, but link building is important for your survival. Come on, if you try to stay clean when everyone is running after links, Google will not offer you some extra mileage or points as far as good ranking is concerned. Link building is not spammy ? it?s just link building. However, if you can develop a quality product and communicate well with your target market (those who have web properties like blog or network profiles), you may well get lots of link love (targeted!!).
2. Anyways, thousands of webmasters use social networks to communicate with the target audience. And like many others, this has also become a trend. And like so many others, new-bees start following the trend ? sometimes without even understanding the actual need. In the process of promoting their blog in social networks, some people even forget to develop the actual product or writing a worthy blog post. How many profiles do you maintain in a single social network? Is it worth?
3. People use RSS and email updates to read blog posts from their favorite blogs. As a blogger, it is achievement enough that you got a loyal reader who wants to follow you among thousand other blogs in your niche. In that case, why don?t you offer the full feed? Why do you want him or her to come back to your website to read the rest ? just for a few clicks on the AdSense ads? Is it worth? Think twice before calling them to your blog again. Some people say that, feeds reduce the amount of comments in the blog post. That?s true to some extent ? but at the same time, the reader is just one click away from writing the comment. So, I don?t think it is a problem if someone feels like writing a comment. Anyways, what is more important, a reader or a comment?

I feel that overall, comments are more important. If everyone just simply read one’s post and moved on, did they critically evaluate what has been said or even manage to grab a hold anything of importance from the text? Comments not only show that people really are listening, but they invoke conversation about what has been said. Without communication between each other, how are we to learn, adapt, change?

From the aforementioned three tips, the most important is the first one. By far. As for the importance of the reader or its comment, I think that both are of the same importance. For different reasons of course.

This will prove to be a big help if you are just starting out with your business and do not have business referrals yet.
