The Internet Has “Officially” Gone MAD!

I have just come away from one of the forums I frequent. It all started a few months ago when I decided I wanted to do something I presumed was a fairly simple procedure.

For business and personal reasons I wanted to do a simple “username” change at the very popular DigitalPoint forums. (I don’t fancy linking to them really)

It was like I was being held to ransom, what the hell is going on in this online world!!? With feable excuses as, “it slows the forum down” “the forum will crash” “we would lose money doing a username change” My eyes are still sore after they rolled out of my head when a Moderator sent me this Private Message, and I quote -

“Your only option for having info removed from DP is to serve the owner of this forum with a court order”

What more can I say…this online world has gone slighty crazy!

Your thoughts are appreciated…

Well you can always just send them a fake one.. Just to scare them a little.

Sounds quite ridiculous to me. Start a petition?

I gave up on Digital Point long ago - too many spammers and too many assholes. There’s no moderation there.

not to mention the mods have no clue, they seem to think banning the webmasters with websites doing well is a good move. How about banning the scammers? They need to have a better look at the current mods and make some changes or its downhill, i gave up as well after talking with some REAL webmasters who were banned for nothing or something silly.

I think you’re all right, I may try the scare tactic. But to go to this trouble over a “username” I’m still in disbelief!

What do you think of starting a similar forum as an add on to NetBusinessBlog - It may be fitting? (allowing users to change their “username” when they want too, of course!)

    Thanks.

That sounds like an excellent idea!

I don’t know why you’re having so many problems, but all you need to do is start a thread in the Suggestions and Feedback area that says “Shawn, Please Change My Username” and include your new user name, and Shawn will change it for you (I did this about a year ago and my user name was changed within a few hours).

::From what you wrote, I think the mods were just giving you a hard time ;)

It sounds like their forums could benefit from moderators who know what they’re talking about.

Yeah, Digital Point used to be a lot more open and worthwhile.

When you imagine how big their database is, there’s no surprise it affects the site. This was proven when shaun changed a previous username and the site went sluggish and slow for a few minutes, since then username changes haven’t been allowed.

Saying a username change affects the forum’s speed is moronic. All it requires is changing one little field in the database. If it really did slow the forum down, they would have to stop using UPDATE queries for the entire forum.

The Magical Formula For Creating Life-Changing Income™

    Hi,

Imagine this… You wake up tomorrow to a refreshing change of pace.

No more waking up to that nasty alarm clock buzzing at 5:30 am.

No worrying about if you’re going to be late for work.

No more worrying about if you’ll have enough time after work for your family

No rushing aroung to get the things done that need to be done.

Imagine the day just like a calm, quiet Sunday morning. You wake up at about 9:30 am to the aroma of fresh perked coffee. You shuffle through the newspaper while having a nice breakfast.

Perhaps you’ll do a quick aerobic workout after you eat- I like the treadmill because it always seems to get my creative juices flowing - then you putter around a bit before heading to the shower for a nice hot, refreshing boost.

Now… it’s time to go to work. So you sit down at your computer, hit the “send and receive”….

… and start watching your inbox fill. As you read the subject lines you see…

    You’ve Got A Sale…
