Ok, so we are all writing about the BIG G giving PR drops. WHO CARES! well I don’t and I’ll explain why.
Granted this is a very selfish reason, but I do not make money by using my PageRank to show my overall standings for traffic because it’s about a useful as Alexa! and we all know how accurate Alexa is…right?
Since about 2003 I have never looked a PageRank as a way to work out how much traffic a potential website has. Google should have dumped it years ago..the only thing I feel PageRank has done is enable the likes of Text Links Ads and Text Links Brokers to build a business model from it by ways of infalting the price of a link based upon PR.
Google (you’ve got it wrong) we can still buy and sell Text Link Ads and Google will still give your SERPs a boost based on your keyword buying. I prefer this, as you can purchase on the evalution of actual (real) site traffic and not some stupid toolbar which is highly inaccurate.
I think PR will only matter to the average (naive) internet user wanting to know what PR you have before you sell them a banner advert or sell them your site. I have a PR3 site that gets more traffic than this blog and this blog has quality content and dedicated readers!?
I have a simple step for you to do today go and Unistall Google’s silly little toolbar…
Our Text Links Ads are Only $75 shown in the right side bar (Get Yours Now!) - Text Link Ads / Advertise
Our Poll results proves what I just said!

Are you out of your mind!!!
I know Alexa is unreliable, but you just can`t compare Alexa with Google’s Pagerank. Alexa is years years ahead in terms of reliability as compared to Google’s Pagerank.
I can trust Alexa rather than Google’s lousy Pagerank any day. I just hope Alexa guys don`t sue you for defamation for comparing them to Google’s Pagerank.
LoL Ankit, I hope you are joking. What he meant is that Alexa ranking can be easily tricked and hence we can’t say that it is accurate.
Now, if people would really pay for PR than you are right the link was not going to sell for $75 (even tho those prices are based when you got listed with the old pr, hope the price won’t change because TLA kinda relays on PR for pricing).
Ankit must be a dedicated Alexa surfer. Hey do you mind visiting my blog so I get your credit towards my Alexa rank. Years ahead in reliability. Wot a Joke!
Adie, 2 things
1. Please reset the top commentators plugin.
2. You’re absolutely right about uninstalling the Google toolbar, that’s just what I did.
I second the top commenter reset. I only have so much time in a day and like to mix business and pleasure as much as possible. Pleasure being reading your blog, business being some link building.
On topic googles pagerank update didnt bother me too much. most of my sites went up. It was the only way they could go from 0. I have never really payed any attention to pagerank though. Its just a number.
I’m still laughing about Alexa…
Anyway, I have reset the Commentators for you lot :-) thanks for sticking with us!
Thanks for doing that. It was getting almost annoying.
Great minds think alike.
I just posted a similar blurb on my blog.
Obsessing over Pagerank is like masturbation:
it’s self-serving, repetitive, and addictive :P
It’s amazing how much webmasters focus on PageRank (PR). It’s only a very small part of Google’s algorithm. Also, the PR we see is not even accurate.
If you’re worried about Google, look at your Google search traffic and rankings not PR.
PageRank will always be significant to an extent. But of course, it won’t be as important as before due to the recent debacle. But PR is such a necessary evil that all bloggers deep down love a high PR.
Not only am I not bothered with Google PR, I am still selling TLAs and enabling dofollow for comments. I am not going to be dictated by Google on what I should be doing for my blog.
I agree about not being pushed around by Google.
Correct me if I am wrong: you can still sell text links and not loose your PR.
You only need to:
1.- Add a nofollow tag in your links
OR
2.- Use an intermediate redirection page that you add in you robots.txt file.
I think that google’s aim is to avoid creating a weakpoint in their system.
They want to avoid people increasing their PR playing with websites having a cheap text link selling programm or create
satellitesblogs with content and a text selling programm….Yeah, that sounds right.
The problem is it’s a lot harder to sell links if you’re taking away the link juice.
You’re right - we should all be worrying about how our human visitors perceive the value of our sites; not what the search engines think!
(My blog stayed at PR4 if anyone cares - I don’t!)

Who does not care about google
My blog went from 0 to 3 and i am happy
“Stop Crying…I really don’t give a S#$! about PageRank!”
How those words should echo over the internet instead of our pagerank crazy masters of the web
You’re perfectly right. I am looking for sales and those sales are coming from traffic, not from low or high PR.
As long as you can rank no. 1 on Google even without a high PR, it’s quite clear that even Google doesn’t care too much about PR ;-)
