Server Migration

Posted on February 17, 2007 by Adie General 10 Comments

I’ve finally found a new web host that has everything I need for NBB. It’s going to be a MediaTemple dedicated server owned by a friend of mine, Nate Whitehill. The server already has a couple sites on it, but Nate tells me there’s plenty of room and bandwidth for me. Hopefully the new server will decrease overall load time and keep the site from crashing if it gets picked up by Digg.

I’ll be transferring the database and swapping the DNS tonight around 12:00 AM EST. I apologize in advance for any downtime.

Update: Server migration completed.

Media Temple is a great choice. Hope that server works out well.

The only problem I’ve had with MediaTemple is I signed up a couple of years ago and now their plans are so much better than what i signed up to, but they don’t seem to have any way for me to take advantage. I asked about upgrading things and it was super pricey. Maybe I should harass them somemore. I have too many hosting accounts :-(

Sounds great, however I believe the goal of switching servers is to decrease (not increase) overall load time :).

Good to hear, if you get a chance maybe you could leave a review of them after a while?

Who was your old server? I’ve signed up to dreamhost which seems to be OK, but the promises of bandwidth are huge so I have a feeling they oversell and hope that noone actually uses that much…

iPowerweb was my old host. I wouldn’t suggest them to anyone! I’ve never used dreamhost though.

Its funny how there are some truly awful web hosts out there. I’d recommend Rackspace if you ever need a huge site, they’ve been unbelievably good, especially with service, but they are expensive.
