Participating in a Social Cause – for bloggers

Posted on 02. Dec, 2008 by Roy in Business

In my last post I was discussion about some reasons of joining a social cause and left the post at a point where I suggested what if an online marketer participates in some social cause!

What happens? Nothing?

In real life you may have 10 friends. One or two of them may be bloggers, some of them are your colleagues and some of them are your school friends. There are often a lot of people who are just known faces with less than average communication.

Now if I ask them about you, most of them will have different stories to tell about you. Two stories may have some common elements but most of them will surely be different. Their opinion will help me understand you – who you are, what you do, what you like and dislike etc. And some points from those answers will help me to develop your identity. You are not just a blogger or a worker. You may also be a local activist or a social worker. You may also be a good tennis player.

Now, think about a situation, where I am looking for a professional. Don’t you think all those comments about you will help me to decide about you! Now you may ask how the information that you are a good tennis player would help me when I am only looking for a content designer!

If you think this won’t help, do not take me to that person who can talk about you as a good tennis player. On the contrary show me the people who would love to talk about your writing skills and professionalism. For example, introduce me to your blogger friends and colleagues.

The same rule applies when you are developing your online profile like a blog. You must prove that you are a human being (show different aspects of your life). And recommend things that can help me to trust you as a professional.

I like the concept behind your post. “Prove to me your a human being”. And not just in your blog, but also in your comments.

When the same person shows up and comments with the same statement “about thier product” and it has no relation to what your post is about, it’s a little obvious your not there.

When we put in time and effort to create a meaningful blog post, Be human in your response. People do relate to people.

Nice post on being social.
