John Chow Has A New Blog Design

Try copying John Chow now :)

John Chow recently got a new blog design. The design was done by Nate Whitehill of Unique Blog Design. I like Nate’s stuff. His designs are clean without being boring. And he offers great pricing: $599 for a complete blog design. That’s a great deal in my book. Anyways, here’s a look at John Chow’s new blog.

Pretty, huh?

He’s still got the sports car. The new design is wider, which allows him more monetization opportunities. Above the fold, he’s added a section for popular articles and a newsletter.

I’m not a designer, but I think this new design looks much better than the old one. The old theme looked boring. Plus, every other internet marketing blogger was using it to copy John.

It’s interesting to note that Nate Whitehill was the one who approached John about doing the new blog design. Here’s what John wrote:

Nate came to me with the idea of doing a new theme a week ago. I told him to do up a rough and if I like what I see, we’ll continue. As you can guess, I liked what I saw.

This is a great example of selling yourself and your skills. Good job, Nate. By landing John Chow, you should be getting a lot more work. And congrats to John. Enjoy your new blog.

What do you think of the new theme?

    WAYYYYYYYY too busy.

I have a hard time figuring out where the sponsors end and the content begins.

Exactly, but that helps his goals of making money!

He might be enjoying it, but not for long. As one of the comments on his blog said - he’s more inclined towards telling people about what he eats, what he drives, where he goes for a vacation, and how much money he is making. With this stuff, I don’t think he has the capability to hook up readers like me for long. I want CONTENT and not GARBAGE. If he is making money it is good for him, but not me as i give a shit on how much people earn on net. Before this I used to like him, but not anymore..

To be completely honest, to me it seems to crowded as well, with a lot of picures at the top of the page. It is hard to see where the valuable content starts through all the sponsor buttons.

The quality of the design itself is nice but seems to have a few flaws as well since i get a failure notification at the bottom bar.

I think it looks great in the screenshot but the reality is that when I actually view the site, little of the content is above the fold i.e. the fold is about half way through the second paragraph - and I’m on a 1600×1050 screen…

    John,
Your monitor is only 1050 pixels high. That is almost as bad as 1024×768.

But, I do agree the design should move more content above the fold for most of John’s visitors, although I’m sure he’s done some research on his viewers before making the change!

Cool, I’ve counted 17 ads on this screenshot. This is nice.

Hey guys, thanks for the mention. Yes, John’s theme is too extreme for some people, but John is happy with it and that’s the most important thing. Of course, the client’s objectives are what dictates our end product. John’s design definitely helped the launch of our business, that’s for sure!

Haha that about sums up everything right there!

I agree that the design is too busy, but I think also people will get use to it with time and that if John is happy with it, then that’s good enough.

Don’t like it at all. It’s too loud and looks too busy. And it takes ages to load! But then again, money making is always loud and busy just like the stock market. LOL!

The design looks great, the blog itself is another thing. The spoof blog, johncow.com does such a good parody. I find the guy so completely self absorbed and full of pedestrian ramblings. He deserves a spoof. but again, nice design.
