Is it right time to put Ads on your blog or website!

For last couple of posts I have been talking about doing something good – something that would really add some value to the web.

For example take a look at these posts:

In each of these posts the endnote had been pretty clear – create something worthy for people to use – create something that would add real value to the web.

Why am I writing all these in this post?

There are different reasons why some blogs or websites become successful irrespective of competition. Why?

In every situation, I find one thing very common – they represent themselves in such a way that they are not there to make money – they promote themselves as a helping hand.

Just think about Wikipedia – why it is so popular? One of the most important reasons is that, it is a great helping hand to world wide audience. And now, if someday you find that Wikipedia is showing some AdSense ads in their pages without affecting the user experience, would you mind it! Would you stop visiting Wikipedia for showing ads!

Wikipedia too earns money but they do not directly leverage it on the visitors. They have found some alternatives to keep those pages clean. Is this a big problem for start up websites or bloggers that they cannot find some alternative!

Yes, it is surely a big problem. But, a lot of bloggers and website owners make a big mistake by adding AdSense code from day one. Often it seems like that those ads were a part of the blog itself. Just ask yourself a simple question? Why are you having them in your blog? Do you have enough visitors who may click on these ads (so that you start earning)!

Why you should not add advertisements in your blog unless you get at least 100 unique visitors everyday in your blog or website!

  1. People (like you) love to talk about non profit organizations. And advertisements on a blog make it look like a (just) for-profit organization.
  2. Unless you get visitors, who would click on those links – in such a situation, is there really any need to make your blog heavy with ads!
  3. There is nothing like quality content to establish a lasting relationship with the visitors. And visitors come to your blog for anything but clicking on those ad links.
  4. Returning visitors know your blog as much as you do – they would simply ignore the ads as you do. You need more unique visitors to earn from advertising. And more importantly, while unique visitors would provide you money, returning or loyal visitors would keep the comment board running to attract more unique visitors.

Are you sure that you installed those Ads in your blog at the right time!

It would be great if someone who works at one of the larger advertising agencies could jump into this thread.
