Google TV Beta - Hoax or Real?

Posted on January 28, 2007 by Adie News 15 Comments

If you haven’t seen the latest bit of nerdy drama unfold, you should take a look at this post on TechCrunch. Apparantly someone’s “discovered” a nifty little trick which enables users to have access to Google TV Beta. I’ve tried following the method that’s supposed to get the Google TV Beta link to show, but gave up after about three minutes. I don’t have any follow through.

In any case, here’s a video of the trick being done (and you can read the TechCrunch article for the other videos).

hahah, its a hoax. Can’t believe its on TechCrunch, the guys behind this must be wetting themselves!

Notice the mobile phone wrapped up in an ethernet cable? That is supposedly ‘increasing his wifi signal’, hahaha!

I suppose its a bit like Ali G and Borat as they will soon become known for their tricks, but its fun watching people get tricked the first time round.

The video duped so many people, it is really well done. I love the theme music.

That is pretty interesting. It is quite an elaborate hoax. That guy Mark Ericson is hilarious.

Actually, its not a hoax, the multiplier for the random number generator increases with each new person to find the secret, so, more people means more chances of having a higher randomly generated number, I think they did this to cut down on a surge of people if this trick was discovered and became widespread.

    WOWOWOW

this Mark Erickson guy is hilarious

I just watched a video from him telling folks to cut a hole in their carpet if there is a bad stain and flip it over to use the
clean carpet on the other side

this guy has probably gotten many folks to sign in and out of google a few hundred times….he got me to do it for about 40 times
