Do you Share what you are reading?

Posted on August 17, 2008 by Roy Blogging 1 Comment

I read hundreds of posts every week from different blogs and news portals. I mainly use Google Reader to get new posts from my favorite blogs. However, that’s not all - I follow links from those posts almost religiously and if a topic attracts me, I use Google and Technorati to know more about them. Apart from that, I regularly visit sites like Sphinn.com and different forums (Just like you!) to keep up with latest happenings.

While surfing around these posts, I really find some posts worth sharing. In addition, just like you, I bookmark them to share with my network.

There had been a lot of talks recently in the blogosphere regarding sharing what you are reading. A lot of people do not like to share their information sources and the main reason behind this is that this may push down their authority as a knowledge source. Nothing can be so funny but this thought. They also think that if you star sharing what you are reading, people would start reading those blogs rather than coming to your posts.

Why?

I would like to say, those who are thinking like this do not know why people read their blogs and perhaps they are not confident enough about the quality of their posts or their thoughts.

People read your blog post not just for the information you are sharing. They also read the post to know your views on the news. To add to this, I would request everyone - stop pretending that you know everything about a topic. In my opinion - a seeker is more important that the one who claims to have gained all the knowledge.

However, you might ask me why I am not sharing what I am reading - the answer is simple - I do not want to bother you to visit another page. In addition, from now onwards I would publish some of the best posts from blogosphere (that I have liked and felt worth sharing) in a weekly post in this blog.

Every blogger is unique not because what he or she is reading; they are unique because of the insight they provide into the news.
