When you do something that works, other people follow. Last year when John announced that he was trading reviews from his readers for linkbacks, he was met with a ton of reviews. This worked great for him as well as a lot of other people around the community that I’ve seen using this method. So now I’m doing it.
I’m offering a free backlink (in the same style John does) for anyone who reviews my blog on theirs whether positive or negative. I’ll be doing one better, however, and selecting one of the reviewing bloggers per week and do a review on my blog as well. So not only do you get a free backlink, but depending on the quality of your review you may also get a review on my blog also.
Simply write the review on your blog (containing at least 1 link back to my site) with whatever length of content you want and then contact me with the URL. That’s it.

Great idea Matt,
I also did a spinoff of this but I did it a little different than anyone else has(as far as I know). I started a “Review Their Blog” for a link. You may want to check it out at http://dipnoi.org/archives/404 to see what it is all about. Basically you have to review another blog in the niche that dipnoi is in and then I will link to you.

By the way, you’re right indeed, reviewing a couple of people as well is a nicer tactic than just linking, you surely beat John as a mogul ;)

Both review for linkbacks and giveaways seem to really be popular these days, great way to boost SE ranking and get traffic.

Hi Matt,
one thought — include the posts titles in the linkback to the reviewer.
I wrote 5 reasons why I’d want John Chow as a brother-in-law thinking it would be a humorous post that would get a lot of links from his feed readers, but it only got around 100 hits over three weeks.

Hi – I will review you but only if you will review me also. But, I’m starting to wonder if John Chow is not risking a google bank getting so many back links at once. I am running a comp for a free pro designed website header or banner (not by me – because I suck at design) but no links are required.
