4 Ways to Increase Blog Traffic

Posted on 31. May, 2008 by Dave in Business

Understand How Linkbait Works. Not all blog posts will be linkbait. It would not be a good idea to overly promote each of your blog post because people may start having negative opinions of your blog when pushback occurs. In addition, linkbait is a trial and error process; you just need to keep on building good content bolstered by regular posting and you will discover what works for you.

Effectively Use High Traffic Days. Once you have linkbait, make sure to capitalize on it. Give your best when you suddenly find yourself in the front page of Digg or Reddit or if you suddenly get hundreds of visitors from a more popular blog. Make sure to follow up the posts with another 2-3 great blog posts to show off your knowledge and writing ability. The visitors will likely decide to stick around to see more of what you have to offer.

Concentrate on your theme. You should focus on the theme that made readers loyal to your blog. For example, if you are an analytical expert, don’t diverge from this issue for a prolonged period of time. Sure, it would be alright to talk about your emotional concerns once or twice but remember to deliver what readers expect from your blog.

Use charisma. It is difficult to project charisma through the internet but it can be done through using a human voice and a good writing style. People like to read blog posts will empathy, compassion, and humor. Try to keep these factors in mind when you are writing a blog posts to increase your chances of success. Having humility despite your success will also be appreciated; never put down a reader’s comments no matter how trivial it may seem. If you do have to delete a particular comment, try to explain the reason why it was deleted when you are asked.

Morning,

Great list! The two most effective ways I’ve found for increasing blog traffic are:

Write a tutorial that spans several days/weeks (Hat tip to Darren of Problogger for that idea)

Write from your heart and let your own unique blog voice comes thru (lots of people will write about the same thing…..but it’s HOW you describe that makes visitors come back for more).

Happy Sunday,

Barbara

Thanks for sharing. I haven’t any link bait yet as I am very new to the blogging scene. I am trying to build my site with content, enough to really put the bait out there at some point. When that time comes – this post you wrote will come in handy. Thanks again.

Yes… A single good piece of link bait will get you traffic but it is the steady flow of quality content that will keep the people coming back. I am a big fan of using video. In 5 minutes you can have some nice video and a reason to come back knowing that there will be more coming soon.

The content will always be the king. No content = no traffic. You don’t visit empty pages, do you? :-)
