3 Reasons to Use Social Media to Reach People Who Don’t Use Social Media

Posted on October 5, 2008 by Roy Internet Marketing 3 Comments

Webmasters often stay away from different social networks for different excuses like “this is a very tedious job” or they “do not have time and money to go social on the web”. There is another big set of webmasters who say that their target audience does not use any social network and thus there is no need to use them to improve business. If the first point is your excuse, I have nothing to say. But if you belong to the second category, you should think twice.

People who drive a car also need food to eat.

RWW published a good post a few days back - Five Ways to Use Social Media to Reach People Who Don’t Use Social Media. The title of the post suggests the content very well and you can read this post if you wish.

There are two points worth mentioning from that post: Let me do it in my own language and from my understanding of the web:

1. Connecting with the target audience via the social media users: this is undoubtedly the basic logic behind branding and brand promotion. If you are a LinkedIn user, you definitely know about second degree or third degree contacts. Or to put it simple, X talks about you to Y (Y is not directly connected to you but he a good friend of Y). These sorts of references are great tools for brand development (as I always say personal recommendations are more powerful than a XXL testimonial page).

Now, when would someone refer your name or your blog? The answer is simple - you need to develop an authority on the subject and prove your position in that social network.

2. Knowing about the latest happenings and being at the right place - at the right time: If you know what is happening in the real world, you have all the reasons to be there to promote your product.

My addition: look for complimentary social networks and get involved. For example, if you are a residential contractor, you can think about joining real estate network. This would also offer you the opportunity to catch your target audience when they are still young.

Social networks are, as we’ve stated, the new thing to be involved in. Here is a recent post on ProBlogger that addresses the issues of being in social networks and how to appropriately address them in promoting your blog (business).
