Understand How Linkbait Works. Not all blog posts will be linkbait. It would not be a good idea to overly promote each of your blog post because people may start having negative opinions of your blog when pushback occurs. In addition, linkbait is a trial and error process; you just need to keep on building good content bolstered by regular posting and you will discover what works for you.

Effectively Use High Traffic Days. Once you have linkbait, make sure to capitalize on it. Give your best when you suddenly find yourself in the front page of Digg or Reddit or if you suddenly get hundreds of visitors from a more popular blog. Make sure to follow up the posts with another 2-3 great blog posts to show off your knowledge and writing ability. The visitors will likely decide to stick around to see more of what you have to offer.

Concentrate on your theme. You should focus on the theme that made readers loyal to your blog. For example, if you are an analytical expert, don’t diverge from this issue for a prolonged period of time. Sure, it would be alright to talk about your emotional concerns once or twice but remember to deliver what readers expect from your blog.

Use charisma. It is difficult to project charisma through the internet but it can be done through using a human voice and a good writing style. People like to read blog posts will empathy, compassion, and humor. Try to keep these factors in mind when you are writing a blog posts to increase your chances of success. Having humility despite your success will also be appreciated; never put down a reader’s comments no matter how trivial it may seem. If you do have to delete a particular comment, try to explain the reason why it was deleted when you are asked.

Offline Blog Promotion

Posted on May 30, 2008 by Rosanne Lim Blogging No Comments

In the past, promoting your blog online was easy because there was only a limited number of blogs for a specific niche topic. Also, most of the bloggers know each other from forums and through other communities so they are glad to help their fellow bloggers. All promotional efforts were met with relative success.

But these days, this scenario is no longer the case. A lot of bloggers are now doing the things you used to do and you discover that the strategies are no longer as effective as it used to be. So what alternatives do you have? Well, you can explore the possibility of offline promotion. Of course, you should still continue with your online promotional efforts but supplementing these with some offline help would definitely produce some benefits. Some offline blog promotion strategies include:

1.       Attend blogging conventions – this will enable you to interact with other bloggers who are interested in the same niche. Once you get acquainted with them personally, they will be more willing to give you a link and help you with promotional efforts. Also, you will find some potential readers for your blog; these people attended the convention because they are interested in the same things you are.

2.       T-shirts and cards – it would be a good idea to give away some business cards to get your name around. Giving out promotional t-shirts with your URL imprinted on it will also help because people will be curious enough to visit your blog.

3.       Blogger meetups – similar to tips number one, meeting with other people personally is a good strategy for promotion. So if there is a meetup near your place, be sure to attend it. You will get new contacts that can turn into assets later on.

SEO for Web 2.0

Posted on May 28, 2008 by Rosanne Lim Social Media No Comments

Ever since Web 2.0 became popular in 2004, numerous theories and suggestions have flooded the internet. But basically, Web 2.0 is the using the internet for other purposes than simple business websites. It brings back the human factor on the internet. Social networking, shared multi media, and online collaboration are all part of Web 2.0. Primary tools include Wiki sites, YouTube, “live face” technologies, and blogs. But in this article, we will focus on SEO for YouTube.

Currently, YouTube accounts for more than half of all online videos watched in North America particularly the United States. Your YouTube videos can be easily found in Google search results similar to normal web pages. This means that your video can attain the top spot in just a number of days provided you use the right SEO technique for it. Here are some tips on how you can do this:

1.       Use long tail keywords on your title – you need to use at least three words in your title. Make sure that the important words are in the same arrangement as people would type them. Most of the time, “how to” is a safe choice because it is one of the most popular search phrases used in Google.

2.       Think of your “tags” as keywords – select search terms that people will most likely use and arrange these words appropriately. Don’t use random keywords separated by commas because you will get better results when you use full length phrases because this is the way people search for information.

3.       Choose your description carefully – although the description box offers the most freedom, you need to choose words that will work well. It can begin with something like “Learn how” to be followed by sentences that are rich in keywords.

PR0 Sites Can Be Link Juice

Posted on May 27, 2008 by Rosanne Lim Promotion 2 Comments

No matter how indifferent you are, you will sooner or later notice which of your links are “link juice” and which ones aren’t. It is interesting to note though that even PR0 websites can pass as link juice; the Page Rank does not seem to be significant factor in determining which links will pass as link juice and drive traffic to your website. Of course, getting links from higher PR websites do have its advantages as well. You should take note though that these sites have a lot more going for them than their PR.

On the other hand, there are certain sites that will not pass the link juice test. But why is that? Although it is not as common as you believe, one of the things these sites have in common is that they have a lot of links to irrelevant and adult websites. Take note though that these links are different from paid links. You will not immediately lose link juice even if you have paid links on your site unless a significant portion of these outbound links are to penalized sites. So the point is, you should not completely ignore PR0 websites because it can provide potential advantages to your website as well.

Translate Your Content to Other Languages

A huge number of people are using search engines to look for information. And they are doing this search in languages other than English. Becoming a multilingual marketer has a lot of incredible benefits. You can tap into new markets and increase your revenue exponentially. Google crawls pages in 35 languages. You should tap into this opportunity while it is still at its growth stage.

This is because media types such as banner ads, video ads, and text ads have different characteristics. Splitting them into separate groups will enable you to manage bids individually. However, one problem is that splitting these ad groups is that multiple non-text ads can be a time-consuming chore.

The free Google tool makes it easy for you to edit ad groups so you can conduct effective PPC campaigns in Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo. But what exactly does the AdWords Editor do? 4 Reasons Why Link Building is So Difficult

Posted on May 24, 2008 by Rosanne Lim Promotion 3 Comments

Building links is one of the most difficult tasks a web owner has to do for his marketing endeavor. This is because unless he has enough financial resources to reward those who will link to him, he is almost entirely dependent on the goodwill of others. Other factors that make it hard for a web owner include:

Reputation – it is important for a company to have a good or well-known reputation in their niche in order to attract the best links. Usually, “free” links are given to the best companies and it is hard for a company to achieve the top spot in the reputation game.

Limited opportunities – niche companies have a limited number of targets. And when you take away competitor websites and dead sites, this number further shrinks down.

Unwilling web owners – any web owner who knows something about search engines is aware that links is important. For this reason, they are hesitant to link to other websites. The attitude of “Why should I give him a link?” is widely prevalent everywhere in the web. It is important for you to provide accurate and up-to-date information that

Static websites – a lot of websites are static “brochures” that don’t link to anything new. Also, these static websites don’t usually link to other pages except when it’s from a links page.

You can rank higher in search engines quicker if you optimize your subpages. A lot of web owners have the misconception that all their optimization efforts should be focused on the main page but the truth is, Google will rank individual pages; it does not rank websites except in exceptional cases (think Amazon, Wikipedia, etc.). Remember, any web page that sits on the top of search engines are there for a reason including:

·         The site has better on-page optimization compared to other web pages that compete for the similar keyword.

·         The site has a significant number of other websites and high PR sites that link to them for that particular keyword.

·         An effective mixture of the first and second strategy can bring in the desired results as well.

You should also remember that optimizing keywords that bring in the most traffic on the subpages can prove to be beneficial. This means that you need to have anchor text links form other web pages as well. Now, if you do a great in optimizing your subpages, there is a high chance that some of your web pages will land at the first page of search engines. You might discover that subpages can rank more quickly than your home page because it is more focused on specific keywords.

When you type a certain term in Google, chances are the result will show a Wikipedia page somewhere at the top of the search results. Have you ever considered using this online encyclopedia as a tool to drive traffic to your website? If so, then you are among the large number of marketers who want to get traffic from Wikipedia to their websites.

You should realize though that Wikipedia was flooded with poor quality links in the past so they cleverly utilized the NOFOLLOW tag on all their external links. But if you cannot benefit from placing links on Wikipedia, what is the purpose of posting there anyway? Well, you will benefit from having an improved reputation, for example. And this should be your goal when you decide to contribute to the Wikipedia community.

Becoming a Volunteer

Wikipedia can be editors in Wikipedia. Editing can add to your reputation especially if you edit content that adds value to the site. Quality edits should not be self-serving; rather, it should be unbiased and add to the knowledge of the community. If you want to learn the Wikipedia system works, you can start out by becoming a member of the community. Build your own user page and interact with other members through the Talk function. This will enable you to improve your reputation and you will discover how you can effectively make use of Wikipedia for your business.

Include your Name in Wikipedia

Some people may view this as overkill but you can do it. However, you need to make sure that you are someone worth mentioning. For example, being a CEO of your own company is not enough; there should be well-known institutions, experts, and accomplishments behind you. If you have published a book or if you were quoted by known experts in the industry, you can include this as part of the reference materials.

Take note though that you should pass Wikipedia’s “notability test” to be included in its entries. These small efforts can go a long way in establishing your site’s positive reputation. Traffic will inevitably increase if you are proven to be knowledgeable in your field.

Get Traffic from Popular Blogs

Posted on May 20, 2008 by Rosanne Lim Promotion 1 Comment

If you are just starting to grow your online business or blog, getting a link from a popular blog can help you a lot. This is especially true if the blog you are linked to targets the same niche as you. But the question is how can you get these popular bloggers to link to you? Below are some suggestions:

·         Find Their Angle. Reading popular blogs regularly will give you an idea of what the stuff the blogger is interested in. You can create several blog posts that targets the same angle; the rewards can be big if he decides to link to your page even for just a single blog post.

·         Establish E-mail contact. Remember that it is not a good idea to immediately ask the blogger to check out your site and link to you. You should use the social approach in the first few contacts before you ask him to check out your site.

·         Comments. Everyone knows just how effective commenting on blogs can be. But their true value may be its networking potential. Comments will get the attention of the blogger and he will click on the website you specify if he gets curious enough.

·         Establish personal contact. With the amount of pitches popular bloggers receive on a daily basis, your mail may get lost in the clutter. It would be a good idea to get a personal introduction to them if you have a friend who knows him; using social media is another alternative.

·         Link to them. If you have a relatively popular blog yourself, send these bloggers some traffic. This will let them know that you are really supportive of their blog and they will keep your blog in mind in the future.
